This morning I was shocked beyond my guts to read something so drastic. Now, whether I was overjoyed at reading it or shattered with my heart racing to a point of breathlessness and palpitation, will tell you if I am an employee or employer. But for that you need to read through it all, all the way to the end.

This is a call for change in Employer behavior. Today the Government of this very democratic nation has taken one huge step towards pleasing the massive working class of the country. As much as it has been welcomed with open arms among employees throughout, it comes as an extremely fateful news to employers far and wide. Now, anything employers and senior managers tell their employees and subordinates can (and most certainly, will) be used against them in the court of law. Literally!

This morning the government laid down a set of severe rules that can get a good number of employers get arrested every single day. They have said and I quote:

  1. No employer is allowed to compel an employee to work for more than 5 days in a week.
  2. If the employee informs you of his/her illness, or the illness of a dependent, the employer is liable to grant him/her paid leave without asking further questions.
  3. In case of the death of a family member or close relative, a full week’s paid leave is mandatory.
  4. In case of the birth of a child, the mother must be given a minimum of 6 months paid maternity leave, and the father is eligible for 6 months of paternity leave if he wishes to take it.
  5. Every employee who is a parent is eligible for paid leaves on his/her child/children’s PTAs, Sports Day, Annual Day, and other major school events.
  6. Employees with elderly parents are eligible for paid leaves on days of the parents’ regular and special health checkup, etc.
  7. Any sexual harassment case can be filed by the female employees without evidence or witnesses. The employer is liable to get this charge investigated on priority, leaving all other work aside.

O by the way, do you know the history of April Fools’ Day? According to Wikipedia, “April Fools’ Day is celebrated every year on the first day of April as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other… The earliest recorded association between 1 April and foolishness can be found in Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales (1392). Some writers suggest that the restoration of 1 January as New Year’s Day in the 16th century was responsible for the creation of the holiday, but this theory does not explain earlier references.”

Hahaha. I am sorry I pulled something so wild off. I either made you really content or heartbroken for a few minutes, didn’t I? As much as it was made your heart race, I enjoyed playing this prank on you. None of the things about the Government making any such move is true,and you know it. As much as I must have made you sweat initially, I’ve now made you smile, right? Well, that is Mission Accomplished then.
