When Ratan Tata stepped down as Chairman of the Tata Group, the largest industrial house in India, in 2012, it marked the end of an era. Tata Group is one of the most prestigious brands of the country, and Rata Naval Tata was the reason behind it. It was difficult to imagine this strong person sitting at home, far away from the stressful world of the business and patiently reading the newspaper over a cup of morning tea.

Well, if he drinks his tea patiently or not, there’s no one to tell, but one thing’s for sure, that Ratan Tata hasn’t kicked off his business boots yet. He may not be active in the running of the vast empire, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking a keen interest in the startup sector, the hottest industry too.

Ratan Tata made his first investment in a startup in March 2014 with Altaeros Energies, a wind-energy company founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduates. Since then he has invested in around 20 startups like Karyaah, Bluestone, Urban Ladder, Paytm among others. Apart from the money and the brand name, Ratan Tata involves himself in the primary discussions with the founders. He talks about the core values of the startup, supply chains, customer experience, etc. among other things and mentors his protégés.

Like these startups, you too can have Ratan Tata cheering in your corner. All proposals are first seen by R Venkataramanan, a close associate of Tata. You have 30 minutes to pitch your dream and you’ll be questioned about the risk and the opportunity. So send your proposal now and get your best suit aired!
